The First Revolt
The First Revolt
The King was a monarch, meaning what he said went
But America wanted Republics, and a democracy
They wanted the people to be in control
Not one person, not one king
Not one person, not one king
They wanted a president, a congress, and representatives
No taxation without representation, you’ve heard it before
They wanted to elect, not king hereditary junk
They wanted the poor to have a say
No princes and lords, knights and lady’s
No special positions from the favoring of Kings
That was England not America, as they might say
So here is the beginning of what they had to say
King George the third was a jolly old man
Always needing money, never thinking long
King George the third was a greedy old man
And he always went across the sea to get what he should need
The colonists were poor and they didn’t have much
And jolly old George taxed their money away
He past act after act with Parliaments help
Till the colonists were right ready to revolt
The Sons of Liberty formed, a group ‘gainst the King
For the freedom of the people, and the freedom of trade
The Sons of Liberty got the people all roused
Using Newspapers and Speeches, and pamphlets passed round
Now Jolly old George was needing money again
So with parliaments help they worked on an act
The act was called the stamp act and it wasn’t to fair
It made the people have to pay to print anything
Newspapers and court documents, along with books
Pamphlets and papers, and bills and such
Everything was stamped with an official stamp
That cost money which went to, Good Old George
Now the people didn’t like it, not hard to see why
And the Sons of Liberty gave them all an idear’
Cause Jolly old George needed Stamp people to stamp
And to make and distribute, these all important stamps
So no one volunteered who had heard the speeches
And those who did, I wouldn’t want to be them
They were threatened and forced, in other such ways
To give up their posts, so no one stayed
When the Stamp act was passed, all I gotta say
Is that there were no stamps so America won
The Sons of Liberty tried to rouse the people again
But everyone went home, they were all tuckered out
And so began the march for liberty,
Now before all this craziness some other stuff happened,
Other acts had been passed, and taxes imposed
Like the molasses act, the woolen act, and other ones to
Like Taxes and tariffs and other restrictions,
Things that profited the king, but not the people
These things were the beginning of the great revolt
Which to England was a Crisis, but the opposite to the Colonists
And you know how this ends, with America on top
After Revolutionary battles, and a big long war
America had freedom, they won against the king
And got their Republic and Democracy.
