Prince Rassellas Part 4

Rasselas Escape

Along with Imlac and the Princess

Rasselas found now comfort and enjoyment

In the company of Imlac the poet

They would go on walks, many a day,

But once Imlac and Rasselas were out walking

One sunny afternoon, after a rain

He perceived that these burrowing animals

Had (because of the rain)

Burrowed in the walls of the Happy Valley

Rassella's, always with escape in mind,

Considered the small creatures

And then with a laugh

He exclaimed to his friend

"Why of course, we can dig through the wall"

For if you looked through the holes in the wall

In some you could see light at the end.

So for some days the Prince and the Minstrel

Explored the boundaries of the "Happy" Valley

And at long last they found

Behind a hedge of trees

A cave of long ago, perfect for their purpose

So every day they brought their shovels

And dug and poked and broke through the wall

One day, when the cave had been long extended

And the end was in view

Imlac and Rasselas heard with fear

The sound of a voice in the cavern

It was feminine, and on exploration,

They found it was Prince Rasselas Sister

(And, it must be said, his favorite)

Before they could try to make an excuse

The Princess stopped them saying,

"I am not sent here to spy, nor will I turn you in,

But long have I watched you everyday,

From my bedroom window,

As you walked to the same place,

 and disappeared for the day.

I see and know what you are doing

And I implore you, take me with."

The Prince and Imlac consented,

And soon they were on their way

The Princess brought along with her

A servant (Her favorite) who knew nothing of the trip

Rassellas and His Sister, would be confused and afraid

When people approached and didn't bow

(For they were wearing common clothes)

So Imlac kept them in a village for a week

So their strange attitudes wouldn't give them away

And at last after a week They all set off

On a ship, and soon arrived at Cairo

And That story you will hear soon.
