Prince Rasselas Part 6
Rasselas and His Sister Search on
Prince Rasselas and his sister
Continue their quest for a "choice of life"
Together they walked in the heat
Until they found need of shelter
So in the midday heat
They walked in the shad of a nearby forest
And soon were amazed to find
That the nature had been bent by human hands
Woven in a harmless but beautiful way
So as they followed the path to find it's end
They came to a great house, or castle
The owner welcomed them in
As the people of the East traditionally do
And showed them around his home
He set out good food, and good entertainment
And they told him of their quest
But he told them his history
That he was in hiding
From his enemy's who wished to have his life and wealth
So he hid in this paradise
Only until they found him,
Than he would follow his treasures to where they were hidden
So he told them, I have not peace.
They departed days later
For it was quite the palace,
And went on their quest, together.
They went to find a Hermit,
Much esteemed in the land.
But on their finding him
They found that he had a sad history
Of fighting and war's and soldiers
And came to the solitude for peace
But now his original happiness was gone
And he wished for the city again.
So Rasselas and his sister,
Introduced him again to the City.
Than Rasselas and his sister.
Split so as to meet more people.
Rasselas went to the Rich,
And the Princess to the poor.
Rasselas found himself soon disappointed
For the man that he went to check out,
Was found by an enemy, captured and done with,
Along with his brother and successor.
So much for the joy of the rich.
His sister went to the poor
But found them of petty pleasures,
And the women always jealous
Of the other woman's hair.
So both came back defeated,
And thought Imlac might be right
That no true pleasure may be found
In the World, Far and Wide
