Prince Rasselas part 8
The Loss of Pekuah
When Imlac came in
He told the two siblings
That they should visit the Pyramids
And the ruins of Egypt
And they at last permitted themselves
To be persuaded to go on the trip
The Princess took her favorite lady
(Pekuah was her name)
Along with her maids.
Than they loaded their tents on their camels
And proceeded to their destination
They stopped at anything that interested them
And spoke to the people when wanted
And at last they reached the Pyramids
The reason they had left home
When the tents were set up and all was ready
They were going to enter the Pyramid
When Lady Pekuah was taken with fear
And couldn't be persuaded to enter
So Rasselas and their guide and Nekayah and Imlac
All entered the opening to the Pyramid
They toured the Pyramid
And saw many wonders
And the Princess made up a narrative
Of which she would describe the inside
Of the Pyramid to lady Pekuah
But on their exit of the Pyramid
They found the men hunched in shame
And the women lamenting in their tents
And all in great disorder
They asked the first person what had happened
And here was what he said,
"No sooner had you entered the Pyramid
But a tribe of Wandering Arabs attacked
They ransacked the camp,
And we couldn't fight back,
For they were on horses and armed
And before they left they kidnapped Pekuah
And took along with her, her maids"
He than quickly explained
That they'd sent men on horses,
But doubted that the robbers would be caught.
For the next two months
(Though Rasselas and Nekayah returned to Cairo with Imlac)
Nekayah and her brother along with Imlac
Searched for the Lady Pekuah
But two months later she still wasn't found
And Nekayah felt it was all her fault
For she hadn't made Pekuah come into the Pyramid
Because she was afraid to go in
Though Rasselas and Imlac reminded her
That it was because of her Kindness
That she had let her stay
But the Princess would not be comforted.
