Father of Promise
Father of Promise
I have given a promise-
Like the sands of the seashore
And the stars of the sky
So shall be your descendants
Do you believe me?
Meet me on the mountain
And sacrifice your son
Give back what I have given
Abraham, father of promise
Meets me on the mountain.
Answering the question of his son,
‘God himself will provide
The ram for the sacrifice’
The altar built, his son bound
He considers now with trembling,
‘God can even raise-
Can raise men from the dead’
My voice stops him
You have proven your faith
I do not ask this of you
Yet I ask it of myself
And of your lineage.
I will give my son.
A sacrifice of mercy.
I will not hold him back
But will send him to Sheol
And it will be the greatest grief
And it will be the greatest joy
For I AM able to raise the dead
And I AM able to raise
