To Mothers

Dedicated to mine

You may have realized
     Or just are realizing
What your mom has done for you
     If you are young enough
That your under mother's care
     Show her undying gratitude
Show her you care
     By making her coffee
    Or smiling through homework
     Or doing your chores without grumbling
If you are so favored
     Please find in you heart
That place of undying gratitude
     Bestow on your mother
Large marks of your favor
     Because of what she's done for you
And that isn't mentioning
     You who live with birth mothers
Where your mom brought you forth to this world
     Not mentioning the pain
And the messes she cleaned
     The nights she stayed up
The money she spent
     She could have bought dresses
fancy coats and blouses
     But instead, she spent it on you
And maybe you're thinking
     She don't by me nothing
But I am quite sure that she has
     So thank your dear mother
And give her a place
     In your heart-though your child or grown
