Pride and Prejudice Letters to Grandmama

My dear Grandmama,
My visit to Mr. and Mrs. Charlotte Collins was somewhat enjoyable.  I must admit that Charlotte does have a very pretty house. She confided in me at how she does not have to deal with Collins all the livelong day, for he is always out in the garden or away.  We talked in her living room for a bit, and than Lady Catherine drove by to tell us that we were invited for dinner. On going to dinner, I was very much surprised to find Mr. Darcy there! Along with his friend Colonel Fritzwilliam.  Lady Catherine was very demanding, asking my age, if I had a governess, where she went, and many other things in a very abrupt way for someone who I possessed no familiarity with. Eventually, she had me play, and though I begged to not be forced to play the piano, eventually I sat down at the bench.  I played a while and found that Darcy came to watch me, I made some somewhat witty comments (I must say) to get him talking, but he didn't answer well. He is a very queer creature, I can never seem to understand him. The Colonel however, was very engaging, and after I had chatted with him awhile we together pushed Darcy buttons.  It was very amusing, and I enjoyed our visit. Eventually we went home in the coach. In my opinion Lady Catherine would not be someone I would reverence as Collins does, she definitely commands attention and demands information. But, that's enough of that, I hope to see you soon!
---
Sincerely

Elisabeth
